Quickbridges
Mabey Quickbridging is a modular, all steel system engineered to provide an off-the-shelf solution to your bridging requirements. Developed by our in-house engineering team the Quickbridge product range has been designed to provide safe, simple and rapid solutions to requirements on both site and public roads.
Based on a standard module width of 1.725 metres, units are located side by side to provide the required roadway width. The units are supplied complete with anti-skid surfacing to the decks and parapet and kerb units are normally supplied ready bolted to the outside units.
Quickbridge units are available in spans ranging from 6m-20m, in two formats - flat top and rollover. Special units can be fabricated to suit specific requirements for permanent installations.
The latest addition to the Quickbridge range is the footbridge that brings the simplicity, safety and speed of the Quickbridge range to pedestrian bridging.
Our engineering team will be pleased to advise on any bridging requirements you may have.
Bridge Types
Flat Top
The Flat Top version of the Quickbridge is designed in a traditional "fish belly" format for applications where a flat road surface is required and the centre depth of the unit is not critical.
Ideal for road, rail or river crossings the flat top Quickbridge can also be built into plant platforms and site access ramps forming a safe, stable, off-the-shelf solution for road and site vehicle access.
Rollover
The versatility of the Quickbridge range is further enhanced by the Rollover format. Designed for applications where unit and end depth are critical the Rollover units provide a flat underside and minimal end depth ideal for over bridging of existing structures awaiting repair or where headroom is critical under the structure.
Footbridges
Mabey engineers have recently extended the Quickbridge concept into a purpose-made footbridge. The 6m and 12m footbridge units can be spliced to create units up to 24m in a single span.
The units feature the unique folding parapet system that is folded flat for delivery minimising transport costs then lifted up on the hinge and pinned in place once on site. The hinge detail is cleverly designed so that access is not required either outside the parapet or under the bridge, ensuring that a safe working environment is maintained without the provision for any additional access.

Surfacing
The Quickbridge and footbridge units are normally supplied complete with an epoxy anti-skid surfacing. This surfacing is suitable for all road-going and foot traffic.
Should a tracked vehicle cross the bridge the surfacing must be protected from damage by a layer of timber at least 100mm thick.
Parapets and Kerbs
The latest generation of Quickbridges are equipped with P1 parapets and steel angle kerbs. Parapets and kerbs are normally fitted prior to dispatch from our depot to minimise the site work required to erect the bridges.
Parapet and kerb fixings are available on each side of each unit. The footbridge parapets conform to the requirements of BS 5400 and BS6779.
Loading
Information given in this publication is for guidance only. Should your proposed use fall outside the scope
covered herein, our engineering teams will be pleased to assess individual requirements. The latest generation of Mabey Quickbridge units are designed to accept Highways Agency HA loading plus up to 45 units of HB.
Any road-going vehicle including articulated lorries, concrete trucks and tipper vehicles as well as mobile cranes
of up to 120Te GVW may cross the units. Reference should be made to Mabey Hire Services’ engineers for any vehicle over 45 Tonnes GVW.
Off road rubber tyred dump trucks up to 65Te GVW may use the units subject to suitable timber protection being provided to the deck surface.
Certain tracked machines and crawler cranes up to 80Te GVW may cross the units; advice should be sought from our engineering team for all machines in excess of 30Te. Timber protection is required for all tracked machines. Abnormal or special vehicles with weights in excess of those quoted may be able to cross the units dependant on their axle layout, please refer to our engineering department.
Foundations
The Quickbridge units are founded on a simple bearing plate with dowels that locate in the underside of the main beams to secure the units and transfer longitudinal and lateral forces via holding down bolts into the bases.
Foundations are usually designed by the client - typical details are shown below for reference only:
