And we’re looking for people who have the energy and potential to develop the skills and knowledge to make it happen. It’s all about removing obstacles, overcoming challenges, and focusing on solutions. From the simple to the extraordinary, we thrive on solving problems.

Graduate Engineer

Join us as an Engineer on our Mabey Hire Graduate Programme. From day one, you will be on a structured programme to build your experience across our expertise, developing skills to design safe, cost-effective temporary works solutions that enable our customers to build, maintain and repair our country’s buildings, infrastructure and utilities.

As a specialist temporary works provider our business operates as both a design organisation and sub-contractor appointed to supply and install equipment.  This offers our Engineers the opportunity to act as a design consultant whilst also experiencing the logistical responsibilities associated with scheme delivery. You will be exposed to all aspects of engineering, including digital, where we drive innovation through our embedded use of immersive technology.

As part of the team, you will have some of the most experienced people in the industry as dedicated mentors and coaches, helping to train and develop you. You will run projects autonomously and engage with our talented Regional Engineering Managers, Chief Engineer and Directors, who will offer dedicated support and feedback.

You will support our Engineers/Senior Engineers to design temporary works solutions and work closely with Sales and Operations teams to deliver schemes that will delight our customers; covering Excavations, Building Refurbishment Propping, Civils Propping, Formwork and Falsework, and Temporary Bridging.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing design briefs at the outset with a view to ensuring the required information is obtained to produce efficient and cost effective designs.
  • Working from first principles to produce temporary works designs and checks (CAT 2-3 in accordance with BS5975:2019)
  • Using your creativity to produce concept solutions for customers which will be developed into construction drawings at detailed design stage
  • Working collaboratively with customers to understand and develop project objectives and building excellent customer relationships
  • Assisting the team with workflow management
  • Providing technical support to the Sales and Operations Teams (including in-house Construction team), working closely with both to ensure our clients receive the best possible service.

What you will bring

  • A degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (2:1 minimum)
  • A passion for Engineering with enthusiasm to take on challenges and responsibility
  • Keen interest in temporary works
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

Benefits

We offer lots of great benefits including a competitive salary, market-leading pension and brilliant health and wellbeing schemes and, more importantly you will:

  • Receive support and mentoring to work towards achieving professional qualifications with the ICE through our ICE-accredited training scheme
  • Have the opportunity to get involved in delivering technical solutions on exciting projects such as HS2 and Thames Tideway
  • Gain exposure to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) opportunities that will broaden your experience, knowledge and skills
