In the latest of a series of academic and professional achievements by the engineering team, Mabey Hire Engineering Director Dave Holland has gained the highest of accolades and has been awarded a fellowship of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
A fellowship is the highest grade of membership of the ICE and recognises senior level of knowledge, ability, experience and contribution to the engineering community.
Dave began his career as an engineer working on the construction of skyscrapers in South East Asia. Since joining Mabey 20 years ago as a Project Engineer, he has achieved a number of awards and professional qualifications including becoming a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. For Dave, his ICE fellowship is the pinnacle of all his qualifications and the most apt way he could think of to demonstrate the importance of continuous learning and creative thinking.
“I only want to work somewhere where I feel that I can learn,” he said. “That’s certainly the case at Mabey Hire. Of our 70 engineers, five of them are chartered – and four have achieved chartership during their Mabey Hire career. A further 28 have or are working towards professional qualifications through our own ICE-accredited training agreement.”
Professional qualifications aside, Dave highlights innovative Mabey Hire projects across all six of Mabey Hire’s capabilities as being key achievements. Dave is proud of his successes, from most recently successfully establishing and driving the monitoring and digital engineering teams to delivering the most complex engineering projects at home and abroad in all disciplines of temporary works.
“That’s what is great about working here – you get to design more than just ‘the norm’,” he said. “With our experience and expertise, plus our willingness to take on projects others can’t, we get to work on the most challenging construction and civil engineering projects, really allowing you to push boundaries of technology.”
As a fellow of the ICE, Dave is most excited about being part of the team that drives the engineering profession forward.
