Team Mabey qualify for ICE Scottish National Football Finals

Well, it looks like Mabey Hire’s excellence isn’t limited to engineering! Organised by the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE), our Glasgow engineering team showcased their skills on the football field last week by winning third-place position in a regional 5-a-side tournament.

Led by captain Michael Fraser, Area Engineer, Team Mabey won their first match against Team Kayleigh Bradbury with a scoreline of 9-4. They went on to win the second match against Team Martin Houston 5-4, before a disappointing 7-4 loss to Team Strathclyde University. The final playoff match against Team Martin Houston ended with a dramatic penalty shootout, with Lewis Hoggan scoring the final winning goal and Ryan Smillie saving all three penalties against him.

The third-place position means the team – which consisted of Michael Fraser, Michael Weir, Michael Gorman, Billy McCormick, Lewis Hoggan, Ryan Smillie and Brian Low – now qualify for the Scottish National finals which will take place on a date yet to be announced.

Team Captain Michael Fraser said: “It was a typical Scottish day in Glasgow but that didn’t dampen our spirits on the pitch. It was a great day to bring the whole office together, and enjoy some healthy competition with other engineers in the region. The team put in a good performance and we’re now ready to take on the rest of Scotland!”
