With three years of knowledge about our products, processes and services under his belt, one of our colleagues has swapped the Nottingham depot for life on the open road. Now he’s the face of Mabey Hire for many site-based customers in the Midlands.
Jordan Martin joined Mabey Hire straight from college. He worked as a yard operative, making sure our kit is fit and ready to send out to our customers so they can deliver their projects more quickly, safely and efficiently.
At that time the Nottingham depot relied heavily on external hauliers to deliver and pick up their products. Having always enjoyed driving and meeting new people, Jordan wanted to make the move to become a driver for Mabey Hire and, working with Depot Manager Jackie Curtis and Transport Manager Martin Binns he pushed himself to complete three months of training to achieve his HGV class 2 licence.
Jordan moved from yard to lorry in November last year.
He said: “In this job I see different people every day. I meet our customers and I never know what each day will bring. Sometimes you get challenges. For example loading can be a bit like a puzzle, but I enjoy that, figuring it out.”
Depot Manager for Nottingham Jackie Curtis said: “There’s been so many benefits to Jordan becoming a driver. He’s great at promoting the Mabey Hire brand. He’s really good with customers and, because he knows our equipment, he can identify it when picking up an off-hire.”
Jordan added: “I wouldn’t have been able to do this without Jackie,” Jordan said. “When she started here she asked everyone at the depot what they wanted to do and I said I wanted to be a driver. She encouraged me to do the training.”
When asked about his attitude to development opportunities, Jordan recommends grabbing them with both hands. “You don’t know if you don’t try,” he said.
