Mabey Hire wins contracts to supply and install temporary bridging solutions for HS2

We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded a number of contracts to supply and install our temporary modular bridging solutions to HS2, enabling the construction of the UK’s new high speed, low carbon railway.

Having been involved in HS2, Britain’s largest infrastructure project, since inception, we are currently supplying and installing ten modular bridges to provide the project with safe access to commence construction of the railway. This is a vital part of the early enabling works which allows construction vehicles to cross rivers, roads and underground assets and buried services.

The temporary bridges are manufactured to the highest standards by our supply chain partner Mabey Bridge at its Gloucestershire-based state of the art manufacturing facility, using a large proportion of steel sourced and rolled in the UK. Our team have begun work to install the first bridge on the HS2 route in Kenilworth, Warwickshire.

To support HS2’s JV project design and delivery teams, we will call on our 70-strong temporary works engineering team; and our dedicated HS2 project delivery team based in Central Birmingham at the heart of the project.

For us, as well as other businesses in the UK, the scale and longevity of the HS2 project will sustain and create jobs across the country - an important factor as the nation emerges from the pandemic.

On a recent visit to the production facility to see some of the modular bridges being constructed, Mark Thurston, CEO of HS2, said: “HS2 is providing a much-needed boost for UK companies across the country with thousands of business opportunities available to aid the construction of Britain’s new high speed, low carbon, and railway. It was great to see the enthusiasm for the HS2 project from Mabey Hire and I will be watching with interest as the temporary bridges are installed in the coming months and years.”

Gordon MacDonald, Chief Executive of Mabey Hire, commented: “We are delighted to have been involved in this project from the start and are proud to have been able to support HS2 through early consultant and contractor engagement. As the project progresses, we remain committed to supporting HS2 in the long-term and look forward to harnessing the full depth and breadth of our expertise to ensure that HS2 achieves its goals.”

As the only temporary works provider in the UK that can offer a complete in-house solution across design, supply, installation and monitoring, our capabilities extend beyond temporary bridging within the HS2 project. We have also been providing Ground Support, Temporary Access, Temporary Propping and Jacking, LIVE Environmental and Structural equipment too.
