Work is taking place to replace existing sewerage along Kings Road in Llandovery. The monument, which is of a bronze soldier and has been standing tall in Llandovery town for just under 100 years, is extremely close to the excavation works, and the customer, Evan Pritchard Contractors, wants to make sure the monument is unharmed during the work.
To enable this, Mabey Hire engineers have designed, built and installed a Mass 25 propping solution to support the load of the monument. They have also provided tilt sensors to measure movement of the statue. Using Mabey Hire’s vibration sensors the customer can monitor the monument to ensure the excavation work is not producing excessive vibration and potentially causing movement.
All the movement and vibration data is recorded in real-time and presented via Mabey Hire’s web portal Insite. If at any time the trigger levels are exceeded then the customer is notified with an alert.
Dave Bradshaw, Monitoring Manager for Mabey Hire, said: “Taking care of Llandovery monument is at the heart of this project. Having peace of mind gives the customer assurance that any work carried out has no effect on the monument over the four week duration of the project.”
Evan Pritchard, Managing Director for Evan Pritchard Contractors Ltd, said: "We worked with Mabey Hire due to our long standing successful working relationship. Their solution to this integrated high profile issue was again delivered in a professional and most helpful manner."
